Micaéla Birmingham is a four-time Emmy Award-winning writer, producer, urban planner, and sought-after speaker who helps audiences rethink how we thrive — at home, at work, and in the world.
Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Systems from McGill University and a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Pratt Institute, Micaéla built a career at the intersection of cities and media. She is known for translating complex ideas — about urban life, technology, work, and well-being — into conversations that are as inspiring as they are actionable.
As host, writer, and co-producer of the Emmy Award-winning series The NYC Field Guide, she has reported extensively on New York City, drawing on evidence-based research to explore how people can live better, more connected lives. She is known for distilling data, policy, and lived experience into stories that feel human, practical, and optimistic.
A highly skilled interviewer, Micaéla has spoken with former First Ladies Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, and directed a live one-hour conversation with President Barack Obama. Her award-winning productions have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Good Morning America, and on the TEDx stage.
As a lifelong urbanist, she advises brands and nonprofits on partnerships that activate parks and public spaces as engines of community and economic vitality. In 2025 alone, she generated more than $1.1M in revenue for a flagship Manhattan park through partnerships with IBM, LEGO, Netflix, and Hamilton.
On stage, Micaéla brings the same clarity and warmth to topics ranging from the impact of digital media on young people to the future of cities — giving audiences tangible tools for action.
